What I Help With

Prices are starting points. Your exact quote is confirmed after your information is reviewed, and it depends on how many documents and terms are involved.

Divorce & Legal Separation

All of these cover legal separation as well as divorce — the process is the same.

Default — No Spouse ParticipationFrom $850

Your spouse will not participate, has not responded, or cannot be located.

Summary DissolutionFrom $650

A simplified divorce for couples who both agree and meet the court's limits on length of marriage, children, property, and debt.

Joint Petition — Divorce or Legal SeparationFrom $1,850

A California process that began January 1, 2026. You and your spouse file together — nobody is served and no response is filed. Available when you both agree, or expect to agree, on all the final terms.

Divorce or Legal Separation — With Written AgreementFrom $1,850

You and your spouse agree on the terms, and those terms are written up and carried through to judgment.

Divorce or Legal Separation — Detailed Written AgreementFrom $2,150

The same, where real property or retirement accounts are being divided.

Divorce ResponseFrom $850

You were served and need to file a response.

Initial Filing OnlyFrom $700

Opens the case with the court and stops there, for people who are not ready to finish. If you later move forward with a full package, this fee may be credited toward it.

Parentage, Custody & Support

Establish ParentageFrom $850

Establishes legal parentage, with no custody or support orders requested.

Establish Parentage with Agreed Custody, Parenting Plan & Child SupportFrom $1,500

Parentage plus the orders, where both parents agree.

Establish Parentage When Parents Do Not AgreeFrom $1,900

Parentage plus a request for orders on custody, parenting time, and support.

Custody & Parenting PlanFrom $500

A standalone agreed parenting plan.

Child SupportFrom $450

A standalone agreed child support order.

Spousal or Partner SupportFrom $450

A standalone agreed support order.

Detailed Parenting PlanAdd $250

Specific days and times, holiday rotation, summer schedule, and exchanges. A basic schedule is included in the base price.

Asking the Court for Orders

Request for OrderFrom $650

Asking the court for new orders, or to change existing ones, when the other party does not agree.

Response to a Request for OrderFrom $650

The other party filed a request and you have a hearing date.

Change an Existing Order — AgreedFrom $250

Both of you agree on the change and want it submitted to the court.

Enforcement of an Existing OrderFrom $650

There is already an order and the other party is not following it. Contempt proceedings are a separate and more technical process that NewLeaf does not prepare.

Agreements & Stipulations

For terms you and the other party have already agreed on. A private agreement stays between the two of you. A stipulation is signed by both of you and submitted to the judge to become a court order.

Private Written AgreementFrom $350

One or a few agreed terms written down and signed — a date of separation, who pays a particular bill, use of a vehicle, a temporary living arrangement. Nothing is filed with a court.

Private Interim AgreementFrom $550

Several temporary arrangements documented together while the bigger issues wait — housing, household expenses, insurance, support arrangements, children's expenses, vehicles, debts. Nothing is filed with a court.

Stipulation & OrderFrom $600

Your agreed terms prepared for both signatures and submitted to the judge to be signed as a court order in an open case. Issues you are not ready to resolve can be expressly left for later.

Deciding One Issue Separately (Bifurcation)

Bifurcation means asking the court to decide one issue separately and earlier than the rest of the case — a date of separation, whether property is separate or community, the date used to value something, whether a premarital agreement is valid, what a business is worth, or paying each other back for money spent. Available only in a case that is already open.

Request for Separate Trial — AgreedFrom $600

You both agree that a disputed issue should be decided first, even though you may not agree on the outcome of that issue.

Request for Separate Trial — ContestedFrom $650

You want one issue decided early and the other party does not agree to handling it that way.

Bifurcation of Marital Status$950 – $1,250

Ends the marriage itself now while property, support, and remaining issues stay open for later. Involves financial disclosures, retirement plan paperwork, and a judgment package. Quoted after review.

Finishing a Case

Judgment on Reserved IssuesFrom $850

For parties returning to resolve issues an earlier judgment or order left open — property division, debts, support, reimbursements, or retirement-related terms. Quoted after review. Dividing a retirement plan usually calls for a separate specialized order, which NewLeaf does not prepare.

Name Changes

Adult Name ChangeFrom $450

Includes the publication step. Newspaper fees are paid separately.

Minor Name ChangeFrom $650

Includes publication and notice to the other parent, who may have the right to object.

Reviews & Getting Started

Case or Document Review$150

Reviewing existing paperwork or a case in progress. Credited toward your document preparation if you move forward.

Extended Case Review$450

A deeper review for a file with a long history, several prior orders, or multiple sets of paperwork. Also credited.

Already Started Your Case? — Takeover$150 review, then one flat quote

For a case someone else started that needs finishing, correcting, or rebuilding. No hourly billing.

After-Hours or Priority Appointment$150

Scheduling outside standard business hours when your timeline calls for it.

Court filing fees are separate and are paid to the Superior Court, not to NewLeaf. A new case currently runs about $435, and a modification about $60. Fee waivers may be available depending on income. If the court asks for additional documents or a hearing beyond what was originally prepared, additional preparation fees apply.
Payment is collected at your appointment. Credit or debit card (Square), cash, personal or cashier's check, or Zelle. A processing fee applies to card payments. Longer multi-stage work such as a divorce can be split into phases; single-document services are paid in full at signature.

Not sure which one fits?

That is completely okay — most people are not sure where to start. Tell me what is going on and I will explain which document-preparation services NewLeaf offers and what each one includes.
