True Default — Divorce or Legal Separation

One spouse files. The other spouse is not participating — absent, unreachable, or not responding to the case.

Is this me? Your spouse won't participate, hasn't responded, or cannot be located. You need to move forward on your own without their involvement.

Summary Dissolution

From $650

A simplified divorce for qualifying couples only. Both spouses agree and participate. Available when: married under 5 years, no children together, no real property, limited assets and debt, both waive spousal support.

Is this me? You and your spouse both agree, were married less than 5 years, have no children together, own no real estate, and have very limited property and debt. Not sure if you qualify? Call or text JoHanna first.

Divorce — With Written Agreement

From $1,850

Both spouses agree on everything and want a full written Marital Settlement Agreement covering property, debts, support, and/or parenting terms. Filed as a joint petition or through the standard process, depending on your situation.

Is this me? You and your spouse agree on how to divide everything and want to file together. You need a written agreement drafted as part of your divorce. This is the most common service for agreed divorces.

Divorce — Detailed Written Agreement

From $2,150

Same as above but involves more complex agreement drafting — detailed parenting schedules, real property, retirement accounts, significant assets or debts, or multiple agreement provisions.

Is this me? You and your spouse agree but your situation is more complex — a home to divide, retirement accounts, detailed custody arrangements, or a longer agreement with many provisions.

Joint Petition — Divorce or Legal Separation

From $1,850

A California process that began January 1, 2026. Both spouses file together as joint petitioners — nobody is served and no response is filed. Available when you both agree, or expect to agree, on all of the final terms.

Is this me? You and your spouse are on cooperative terms, you both want to start the case together, and neither of you wants the other to be served with papers. Note that this process does not allow either of you to ask the judge for temporary orders while the case is open.

Initial Divorce or Legal Separation Filing

From $700

Opens the case with the court and stops there. Includes the petition, the summons, the children’s residence declaration if you have minor children, and filing-ready documents prepared from your instructions. Agreements, disclosures, stipulations, and judgment preparation are separate services.

Is this me? You want the case started now but you are not ready to sort out property, retirement, or a final judgment. If you later move forward with a full package, this fee may be credited toward it.

Divorce Response

From $850

Your spouse already filed for divorce and you need to prepare and file a formal response with the court.

Is this me? You received divorce paperwork from your spouse. You have a deadline to respond — typically 30 days from the date you were served. Time-sensitive — please reach out promptly.

Parentage, Custody, Support & Family Orders

Establish Parentage (Paternity)

From $850

For unmarried parents. Establishes legal parentage (paternity) and sets custody, a parenting plan, and child support in one case — the starting point when parents were never married.

Is this me? You and the other parent were never married, and you need paternity established along with custody, a parenting plan, and/or child support. If the other parent won't agree, JoHanna will add a Request for Order — see below.

Custody & Parenting Plan — Agreed

From $500

For establishing a new custody arrangement or modifying an existing one — when both parents are in agreement.

Is this me? You and the other parent agree on custody and parenting and need it put into a court-ready document for the first time, or you both agree to change an existing arrangement. If the other parent does not agree, see Request for Order below.

Child Support — Agreed

From $450

For establishing child support for the first time or modifying an existing child support order — when both parties agree.

Is this me? You need child support set up for the first time, or you and the other parent both agree to change the existing support amount. If the other party does not agree, see Request for Order below.

Spousal Support — Agreed

From $450

For establishing, modifying, or terminating spousal support — when both parties agree.

Is this me? You need spousal support established, changed, or ended and both parties are in agreement. If the other party does not agree, see Request for Order below.

Request for Order (RFO)

From $650

For asking the court to issue, modify, or enforce a family law order. A court hearing will be scheduled. Can be used for custody, support, enforcement, temporary orders, relocation, and more.

Is this me? The other party won't agree — OR — an existing order isn't being followed — OR — you need temporary orders during a pending case — OR — you're establishing parentage and the other parent won't agree on custody or support. Not sure? Call or text JoHanna before selecting.

Typically includes: FL-300 Request for Order · written requested-orders attachment, if needed · supporting declaration based on the facts you provide · a small number of relevant exhibits · service paperwork · filing and service instructions · one revision round before filing

Response to a Request for Order (FL-320)

From $650

The other party filed a Request for Order and the court gave you a hearing date. Prepares your Responsive Declaration (FL-320), your written declaration and exhibits, and the proof of service.

Is this me? You were served with a Request for Order and a blank FL-320, and you have a hearing coming up. Your written response is due a set number of court days before that date — please reach out promptly.

Changing an Existing Court Order — Agreed

From $250

For simple agreed changes, clarifications, or corrections to a family law court order already in place. Both parties must agree and sign.

Is this me? You already have a court order and both parties agree to make a minor change or correction to it. For major changes or if parties don't agree, see Request for Order above.

🌿 Note on parenting plans: a basic schedule is included in the base price. A detailed, custom parenting plan — specific days and times, full holiday rotation, summer, and exchanges — takes more time to prepare and may adjust your quote. Name Change

Adult Name Change

From $450

For legally changing your name through the California court process. Includes petition preparation, publication coordination, and order after hearing.

Is this me? You are an adult who wants to legally change your name for any reason outside of a divorce proceeding.

Minor Name Change

From $650

For changing a child's name through the California court process. Includes the publication step, notice to the other parent, and order after hearing.

Is this me? You want to change your child's name through the court. This process involves additional steps including notifying the other parent, who may have the right to object.

Agreements & Stipulations

For terms you and the other party have already agreed on, on any subject. A private agreement stays between the two of you. A stipulation is signed by both of you and submitted to the judge to become a court order. Neither of these is the same as a bifurcation. Asking the judge to approve something you have already agreed on is different from asking the court to pull one disputed issue out and decide it first.

Private Written Agreement

From $350

Terms the two of you have already agreed on, written down and signed by both of you. Nothing is filed with a court. Could cover a date of separation, the home, household bills, insurance, a vehicle, debts, money one of you is paying back, or anything else the two of you have worked out.

Is this me? You have settled some things between yourselves and want them in writing. Check this box and a short question will appear so you can tell JoHanna how much your agreement covers.

Stipulation & Order

From $600

The terms you both agree on, prepared for both signatures and submitted to the judge to be signed as a court order in an open case. Issues you are not ready to resolve can be expressly left for later.

Is this me? There is an open case, you and the other party agree, and you want the judge to make your agreement enforceable instead of one of you filing a request against the other.

Nothing is filed and this is not a court order. No judge reviews it or signs it. If the other person stops following it, a court cannot enforce it the way it enforces its own orders.

It is between the two of you only. Your lender, insurance company, retirement plan, the IRS, and Social Security are not part of your agreement and are not bound by it. Writing down that one of you will pay a joint debt does not take the other person off that account. Check with the company directly.

The terms are yours. NewLeaf puts your agreed terms in writing at your direction. JoHanna is a registered California Legal Document Assistant, not an attorney — she cannot tell you what terms to agree to or whether your agreement is a good idea for you. For that, please speak with a licensed California attorney.

Want a judge to sign off on your terms? That is a different service — the Stipulation & Order above — and it only applies once a court case is open.

Separating One Issue From the Rest (Bifurcation)

Bifurcation means asking the court to decide one issue separately and earlier than the rest of the case. It can be many different issues — a date of separation, whether property is separate or community, the date used to value something, whether a premarital agreement is valid, what a business is worth, or paying each other back for money spent. Available only in a case that is already open.

Request for Separate Trial — Agreed

From $600

You and the other party agree that a disputed issue should be decided first, even though you may not agree on the outcome of that issue. Includes the application for separate trial, the stipulation, and the signature packet.

Is this me? There is an open case, you still disagree about something, and you both want the judge to settle that one thing before spending time on the rest. If the two of you already agree on the answer, a Stipulation & Order is usually the simpler route. The issue might be the date of separation, whether property is separate or community, the date to use for valuing an asset, the validity of a premarital agreement, a business value, or reimbursement claims.

Request for Separate Trial — Contested

From $650

One party asks the court to decide a particular issue separately and early, and the other side does not agree. Prepared from the facts and instructions you provide.

Is this me? There is an open case, you want one issue decided first, and the other party does not agree. The price depends on how much supporting detail your declaration carries.

Bifurcation of Marital Status

$950 – $1,250

Ending the marriage itself while property, support, and remaining issues stay open for later. Involves financial disclosures, retirement plan paperwork, and a judgment package. Quoted after review.

Is this me? You want to be legally single now and deal with property and retirement later. The six-month period after the petition was served still applies. If a retirement or pension plan needs to be joined to the case, that is quoted separately.

After Your Judgment

For a case that is already underway or already decided. A wage assignment sets up how an existing order gets paid. Enforcement addresses support that has gone unpaid. Most people need one or the other, not both.

Wage & Earnings Assignment Setup

From $450

Preparing the paperwork so support under an existing order is paid through an employer’s payroll — including setting it up with a new employer after a job change. Covers child support and spousal or partner support, whether it is being prepared for the first time or updated. Does not include changing the amount of support.

Is this me? You already have a support order. The payments were coming out of a paycheck and stopped, or they were never set up through payroll in the first place. You are not asking to change the amount — you want the existing order paid the way it is written.

Typically includes: the earnings assignment or income withholding order · the blank hearing-request form served alongside it · proof of service · the packet your employer’s payroll department needs · written filing and service instructions

Your quote may be higher if: the court has to sign a new order first (adds a court application and a $60 filing fee) · more than one employer must be served · both child support and spousal support are involved · a past-due balance still needs to be established

Enforcement of an Existing Order

From $650

For asking the court to enforce an order that is already in place, prepared from the facts and instructions you provide.

Is this me? There is already a court order and the other party is not following it. You are not asking to change the order — you want it enforced. Please note NewLeaf does not prepare contempt proceedings; those involve a different and more technical process and are best handled with an attorney.

Judgment on Reserved Issues

From $850

For parties returning to resolve issues that were previously left open — property division, debts, support, reimbursements, or retirement-related terms. California allows a judgment to settle some issues while leaving others open to be decided later, and this service is for finishing those. Case review comes first.

Is this me? Your case reached a judgment or an order that left certain issues open, and you are ready to finish them. Please note that dividing a retirement plan usually needs a separate specialized order, which NewLeaf does not prepare — that step involves a specialist or an attorney.

Already Started Your Case? (Takeover)

$150 review

For a case someone else started — whether it needs finishing, corrections, or a full rebuild. It begins with a $150 file review (credited toward your work), then one flat quote for exactly what your case needs. No hourly billing.

Is this me? Your paperwork was started elsewhere, has errors, was rejected by the court, or just needs to be finished. JoHanna reviews the file first, then gives you one flat price.

Additional Options

After-Hours / Priority Appointment

$150 flat fee

For scheduling outside of standard business hours when your timeline calls for priority access.

Is this me? You need to move quickly or can only meet outside normal business hours. This add-on gets you priority scheduling with JoHanna.

⚖️ Court filing fees are not included in the above pricing and are paid directly to the Superior Court — not to NewLeaf. New case filing fee: $435. Modification or ex parte application filing fee: $60. Summary Dissolution and the Joint Petition (FL-700): one joint filing fee of $435 — the two of you file together and pay once. Fee waivers may be available depending on income. E-filing: $35 additional if available in your county. If the court asks for additional documentation or a hearing beyond what was originally prepared, additional document preparation fees will apply. Existing case takeover pricing is confirmed following initial file review.
